Our Power is out!

My husband had just left for his work, when suddenly the lights went out. I already had a bowl and the eggs out getting ready to make cupcakes. Then I heard it. "Oh no! The tablet it broken!" Theo joined his sister's desperate cry as the T. V. was suddenly shut off. My quiet evening routine was disrupted by the dying light of day and no power to my house. There went dinner, cupcakes, and my kids being quiet.
I scrambled for my phone and with a huge sigh of relief found it was fulled charged. Checked the tablet's power, then texted my mother-in-law telling her my power was out. Being 30 degrees outside, I wasn't sure how long our heat would last. After a call to the electric company, they said it take 3 hours. 3 HOURS!? I felt hopeless. How could I keep my 2 year old son and 3 year old daughter entertained in a dimly lit living room without them wanting to touch the candles?
I was frantic for ideas, when my daughter came up to him wanting to be held. I paused.
Then for about 15 minutes I held her while my son wondering from room to room giggly about the lights being out and nothing working. After a little while she fell asleep, while then my son starting pulling out his blocks to play with in the living room. It was quiet and peaceful. My frantic self was suddenly calmed. I pulled out my yoga mat and did 30 minutes of yoga off youtube from my phone. In candle light with my children safely napping and playing, it was the best hour I had in a long time. No TV, but my phone instructing me into yoga positions and the soft glow of candle light. It was amazing.

I am not sure what I learned. But I learned my kids are wonderful. Not that they don't have their moments, but I saw them behave and have fun with new experience of being without power. I realized how little time I give myself to do something for myself like yoga. And how wonderful it felt to have very little tech working.  I feel like I should do this more often.

Anyways, I have to scoot off.

until I have more free time
